私がサッカーに興味を持ち始めたのは、ここ15年程度のことなのです。
だからサンフレッチェ広島が東洋工業時代からどのような天皇杯との歴史を紡いできたかは、体感できていないのです。
そんな私ですが、それでも4つほど、天皇杯に関してはなかなか苦難というか、辛い時というか、そういう厳しい思い出のようなものがあります。
私と同じサンフレッチェ広島キャリアをお持ちの方は、間違いなく頷いてくれることでしょう。

2012年の天皇杯
2012年は、サンフレッチェ広島に関わる人たちにとっては忘れることができない年ですよね。
何しろリーグ戦初優勝。エディオンスタジアムで佐藤寿人選手が流した涙は、私も一生忘れることはできません。
しかし一方、この年の天皇杯は、何と、初戦（2回戦）で当時四国リーグ（現在はJ3）のFC今治に1対2で敗れているのです。
リーグ戦を優勝したので、これはあまり話題にはならなかったような記憶がありますが、しかし、四国リーグといえばやはり下位のカテゴリーであり、あってはならいことが起こってしまったのは事実です。
2013年の天皇杯
連覇の年でした。最終戦で、アウェイで鹿島に２対0で勝ち、一方前節まで1位だった横浜F・マリノスが川崎に敗れ、サンフレッチェ広島の逆転優勝。
Ｊリーグも優勝の可能性が高かった横浜F・マリノスの現場に本物のシャーレはあり、カシマスタジアムでサンフレッチェ広島の選手が掲げたシャーレは、板か厚紙で作ったものだった記憶があります。
それでも鹿島に、カシマスタジアムで勝利しても逆転優勝は嬉しかった。まさかの連覇でした。
天皇杯もこのシーズンは決勝戦まで行きました。
しかし、リーグ戦、ACL、ルヴァン、クラブW杯、天皇杯と、サンフレッチェ広島の戦士たちは過密スケジュール。
天皇杯もそのような中で堂々と、また奇跡の逆転などを展開し決勝まで辿り着きましたが、元旦に横浜F・マリノス相手に力尽きてしまい、準優勝。残念。
誰もが、非難などしない、よくやったと心から思った準優勝でしたが、それでも、紫の戦士にも私たちにも悔しさが積み重なったシーズンでした。
2021年、天皇杯
このシーズンは、ワシの思いの中では、最も屈辱的なシーズンだった。まあ、屈辱的という表現がいいかどうか、ということもありますが。
リーグ戦もうまくいかず、それだけに天皇杯にも期待もあったのですが、関西リーグ一部のおこしやす京都ACに対して1対5という屈辱的な大敗。
天皇杯の2回戦あたりは、上位のリーグが初登場し、ターンオーバーしながらの戦いになることが多く、ジャイアントキリングの起こる可能性は高いのです。そりゃわかってます。2021年の今治戦もそうでした。
しかし、おこしやす京都に対して、1対５はないだろう、いくらなんでも。
当時の監督は城福浩氏でしたが、この段階で更迭されても、誰しもが（本人も）納得した人事だったと思います。
とにかく、この年の天皇杯の結果に関しては、誰しもが忘れてはいけない、そういう内容と結果でした。
そして、別の意味で、忘れてはいけない天皇杯の結果が翌年＝2022年の決勝のゲームです。
2022年の天皇杯
手にしようとしていた賜盃が、サンフレッチェ広島に関わる誰もがその支配の感触が感じれれるくらいになっていたところで、スルッと逃げてしまいました。
この年のサンフレッチェ広島は、私の印象は「快進撃」の一言です。
新たにミヒャエル・スキッベを監督に迎え、一気に戦略・戦術を変更。前から勁いプレスをかけてショートカウンター。ほぼ相手サイドでゲームを展開するチームに生まれ変わりました。
最終的にはリーグ戦は3位。そしてルヴァンカップは劇的な逆転劇で、名勝負数歌になっているセレッソ大阪に勝利して優勝。
しかし。
ルヴァンの決勝の1週間前に行われていた天皇杯決勝。
J2のヴァンフォーレ甲府に敗れてしまった。
前半先生を許す。後半39分に川村拓夢選手のゴールで追いついた。1-1で延長戦に突入。延長後半10分にPKを得たが、キーパーがゴールを阻止。延長でも決着がつかずPK戦で敗れて天皇杯決勝は６連敗となった。
今日2023年6月7日 サンフレッチェ広島の天皇杯が始まる
今日、福山市で天皇杯の2回戦＝サンフレッチェ広島にとっては初戦が始まる。
相手は、四国サッカーリーグで圧倒的な首位を走るFC徳山。
実に、嫌な予感のする組み合わせですよねーー。
でも、監督は「相手に不足はない。全力でぶつかる」と。
ナスは「受け入れ難い結果になってしまった。今年は最初から力の差を見せたい」と気合が入っている（まあ、入りすぎるのもどうかと思うが）。
きっと勝ってくれることでしょう。
今度の日曜日の川崎フロンターレ戦のことを考えて、ターンオーバーもあるとは思いますが、繰り返しますが監督は「全力でぶつかる」と言ってますからね。
さあ、私たちも応援しますよ。楽しみながら。

It is only in the last 15 years or so that I have become interested in soccer.
So I do not have a sense of what kind of history Sanfrecce Hiroshima has had with the Emperor's Cup since the days of Toyo Kogyo.
I am such a person, but even so, I have about four memories of hardships, or difficult times, or such harsh memories regarding the Emperor's Cup.
Those of you who have had the same Sanfrecce Hiroshima career as I have will no doubt nod your heads.
The 2012 Emperor's Cup
2012 is a year that no one associated with Sanfrecce Hiroshima will ever forget.
After all, it was the first league championship. I will never forget the tears that Hisato Sato shed at Edion Stadium.
On the other hand, we lost the Emperor's Cup to FC Imabari of the Shikoku League (now J3) in the first (second) round, 1 to 2.
However, the Shikoku League was still a lower category, and it is a fact that something that should not have happened happened.
Emperor's Cup in 2013
It was the year of the consecutive championship. Yokohama F. Marinos, which had been in first place until the previous week, lost to Kawasaki, and Sanfrecce Hiroshima won the championship in reverse order.
Yokohama F. Marinos, which had a good chance of winning the J-League championship, had a real petri dish on the field, while the petri dish held up by Sanfrecce Hiroshima players at Kashima Stadium was made of a board or cardboard, as I recall.
Still, I was happy to see the upset victory over Kashima, even if it was a victory at Kashima Stadium. It was a consecutive victory, which I had not expected.
The Emperor's Cup also went to the final that season.
However, Sanfrecce Hiroshima's warriors had an overcrowded schedule with league games, ACL, Levant, Club World Cup, and Emperor's Cup.
In the Emperor's Cup, the team made it to the final with a magnificent performance and a miraculous comeback, but ran out of steam against Yokohama F. Marinos on New Year's Day and finished as runners-up. It was a shame.
No one would ever accuse us of being a "blame game," and we sincerely felt that we had done a good job.
2021, Emperor's Cup
This was the most humiliating season in my mind. Well, I am not sure if "humiliating" is the right word.
The league matches were not going well, and for that reason I had high hopes for the Emperor's Cup, but we suffered a humiliating 1-5 defeat to Okoshiyasu Kyoto AC, a member of the Kansai League.
In the second round of the Emperor's Cup, the top teams of the league often appear for the first time, and the game often turns into a battle of turnovers, so there is a high possibility of a giant-killing event. Of course, we know that, as was the case against Imabari in 2021.
But against Okoshiyasu Kyoto, one against five is not going to happen, no matter how much you want it.
The manager at the time was Hiroshi Shirofuku, and even if he had been ousted at this stage, I think everyone (even he) would have been satisfied with the personnel change.
Anyway, as for the result of the Emperor's Cup that year, it was the kind of content and result that no one should forget.
In another sense, the result of the Emperor's Cup should not be forgotten in the final game of the following year (2022).
Emperor's Cup 2022
The Emperor's Cup that we were about to win, just when everyone involved with Sanfrecce Hiroshima could feel the sense of domination, it slipped away.
My impression of Sanfrecce Hiroshima that year was one word: "rapid progress.
The new manager, Michael Skibbe, changed the strategy and tactics at once. The team is now playing a strong press from the front and countering with short counter attacks. The team was reborn as a team that plays the game almost exclusively on the other side of the field.
In the end, they finished 3rd in the league. And in the Lewan Cup, they won the championship with a dramatic come-from-behind victory over Cerezo Osaka, a team whose name has been written in several famous songs.
However.
The Emperor's Cup final was held a week before the Levain final.
They lost to Van Foret Kofu of J2.
Allowed Sensei in the first half. Takumu Kawamura's goal in the 39th minute of the second half caught up with us. 1-1, we went into extra time. The team got a penalty kick in the 10th minute of the second half of extra time, but the keeper stopped the goal. The game was not decided in extra time, and the team lost in the penalty shootout, making it six straight defeats in the Emperor's Cup finals.
Today, June 7, 2023, the Emperor's Cup begins for Sanfrecce Hiroshima.
Today, the second round of the Emperor's Cup, or the first for Sanfrecce Hiroshima, begins in Fukuyama City.
Their opponent is FC Tokuyama, the overwhelming leader in the Shikoku Football League.
It is a matchup that gives a bad feeling, doesn't it?
